Price Action Strategies trade the recurring geometric patterns that emerge in candlestick charts without relying on indicators. Pin bars, engulfing bars, inside bars, failed breakouts, and pattern-based reversals. The discipline's appeal is its universality: the same patterns work across stocks, forex, crypto, and futures on any timeframe that produces reliable closes. The risk is over-interpretation: every chart contains infinite small patterns, and traders who take every signal they see end up with strategy-fit-by-chart-reading rather than by rule.
The strategies in this category enforce strict contextual requirements. Pin Bar Reversal requires the pin bar to form at an established level (swing high/low, round number, prior supply/demand zone). Pin bars in the middle of a range are noise. Inside Bar Breakouts require the mother bar to be on a trend-aligned side of a recent structural level. Failed Break Reversal. one of the most reliable single patterns across markets. trades obvious breakouts that get rejected within two bars, fading the crowd that chased the initial move. Engulfing Momentum and Double Top complete the rotation. Across all these setups, the filter that separates winning practitioners from losers is patience: take only the patterns that form at pre-identified levels, not every pattern that forms on the chart.
